Altar Guild The Altar Guild is made up of groups that serve once every six weeks to do the “holy housework of the Church” like preparing for communion, etc. as well as flowers, linens and candle needs. This is an invitation to anyone wishing to take the training to become a member. Cindy Ware is the Director and can be reached at 266-6947.
Art-at-the-Cathedral Art-at-the-Cathedral offers an opportunity to explore worship through various art forms. Exhibits in the Gallery bring many people to the Cathedral during the week in addition to the Gallery Hop events. Children’s Chapel Children ages four through fourth grade may join the opening procession of the 11:00am service then go into the Children’s Chapel for a service specifically for them. Children join parents during the “Peace” in time for Holy Communion. Location: First floor Helm Wing near Garden and Chapel.
Commodores Remember to save the first Fridays of each month at 7:00pm for the Commodore meetings. This fellowship meal and program is for adult parishioners. Please check the Cathedral Reminders, the website (www.ccclex.org) for details or contact Loys Mather, 299-8569 for more information.
The Community Cross of Nails CCN is an international, ecumenical fellowship of individuals and groups who are committed to the ministry of reconciliation. This means reconciliation with oneself, one’s family, the local community, the worldwide community, and God. The goal of the CCN is to bear witness to the power of forgiveness, to build new life out of the world’s brokenness. Contact the Dean for more information, 254-4497.
Cursillo Reunion Groups Persons that have attended Cursillo will want to get into a weekly Fourth Day Group. These small groups provide mutual encouragement in establishing a life of grace. Contact Steve Specht for more information at 268-9817.
Daughters of the King (DOK) DOK is an order that takes a vow to minister through service and prayer. Some training is required to be a lifetime member. Each third Wednesday of the month, the group meets at 5:15pm for the Holy Eucharist and Sacrament of Healing in the Chapel followed by dinner and lesson in the Tilford Room. Ecumenical Pre-School Ecumenical Pre-School is for three through five year olds, and is a joint venture with Second Presbyterian. Two, three, or five days are available. We provide integrated learning experiences designed to fit each child. We stress cooperation over competition. We encourage problem solving and promote a multi-cultural emphasis. Episcopal Church Women (ECW) ECW is open to all people of the parish. At 11:00am each second Tuesday of the month, they meet for a business meeting and program in the Great Hall followed by a buffet lunch. Childcare is provided. Gather and Grow Groups These casual social fellowships are open to all Christ Church adults. Small groups meet monthly in places of their choice and groups are reshuffled each fall. Newcomers are welcome to join in at any time so please call Susan Stempel, 255-5356. We stand for “Gather in Fellowship…Grow in Friendship” and that means you are important to us at Christ Church Cathedral.
Meals on Wheels Every Thursday, eight individuals are provided meals with assistance from Christ Church and the Christ Church Episcopal Women. It is a wonderful program and a great volunteer service which requires less than two hours a week. We encourage anyone to sign up on the substitute list. Contact the church for more information.
Mother’s Morning Out Mother’s Morning Out gives parents a few hours on their own while we lead the children through creative play and socialization. Children ages six months to three years can spend Tuesday and Thursday mornings with other children. Hours are from 9:00am until 1:00pm. Call Michelle Dunlap for more information at 489-5958.
Music Ministry Boys and girls, ages five an up, and adults can learn to sing while learning about the church, Bible passages set to music, and the liturgy in weekly rehearsals under the leadership of our Canon Musician, Erich Balling. The other half is “ministry” and you will find that Erich and Kathleen, Music Assistant, are intentional about nurturing the spiritual lives of choir participants. New members are invited and welcome.
Needlepoint Guild Needlepoint kneelers are created by volunteer “stitchers”, and it has long been an important ministry of Christ Church Cathedral. The works are generally commissioned as a memorial or honorarium. If you are interested in commissioning a kneeler or are an experienced “stitcher”, please call the Dean’s office for more information, 254-4497.
Newcomers Newcomers are vital to the life of Christ Church and we want you to feel a part of our community. Stop by the Welcome Center anytime to introduce yourself and grab a “Christ Church” coffee mug, as an expression of how important you are. Get acquainted with our newest members by checking out the coffee area bulletin board pictures of new members. Prayer Knitters We provide shawls knitted with prayer for our Cathedral members who are shut in, having surgery, or a new baby. Spear headed by the Daughters of the King, we knit at home individually, coming together once per month to knit, pray, and have study together. When a shawl is complete it is blessed by a clergy member and taken to those in need. We encourage anyone interested in knitting to become a part of this wonderful ministry. Welcome Center Volunteer Ministry Working the welcome center and answering the phone is one of the most eye-opening ministries of the church. We are blessed with such loving parishioners to welcome the community and on many occasions address their immediate needs. If you are interested in a half-day regular shift or simply be a substitute occasionally, please contact Leslie Cox at 502-863-1919.
Youth Ministry
Youth programming for grades 6-12 utilizes the Journey to Adulthood Program of the Episcopal Church and is led by the Youth Ministry Council, a group of 7-12 graders chosen by their peers. Groups meet during Sunday School and on Sunday afternoons to participate in study, worship, service, and community. This is exciting group is growing and looking for participants and volunteers.
