Art at the Cathedral Call for Artists

Art at the Cathedral, a gallery at Christ Church Cathedral in Lexington, Kentucky, calls for art depicting “Shaker Village.”. The exhibit is open to all media including fabric and sculpture. You are invited to present “Shaker Village” spring and summer scenes (but will consider all seasons), surrounding pastoral life as well as still life. The artist may also draw upon Shaker spirituality and history. Please forward this call for artist to those who are known to paint Shakertown. Art at the Cathedrals now prefers accepting only digital entries by email, from which the exhibit will be selected. You will be notified regarding which pieces to drop off. Please call me if this is not possible and we will try to accommodate you. If you are unfamiliar with emailing digital images, check with your local library or contact jpmark@windstream.net.
Calendar Deadlines:
Email digital images after Mar. 1st until Mar. 17.
Selection will occur by Mar. 22, at which time you will be notified by email which art to drop off.
Drop off Wed, Mar. 24, 11a.m. to 1:00 and 5-6 p.m.
Exhibit opens Sunday, Mar 2 8.
Exhibit Dates: Mar. 28—May 16
Gallery Hop Reception Friday, April 16
Pick up Works from 11a.m. to 1:00 and 5-6 Wednesday, May 19.
Entry:
Drop off location: Art at the Cathedral, Christ Church Cathedral, 166 Market Street, Lexington, KY 40507. If you have not been to the facility before, enter at the canopied entrance on Cathedral Way, just beyond 166 Market. Bring this entry form with your work clearly marked. Your signature on this entry form indicates your assurance that pieces entered will be available for the specified time period of the exhibit.
Entry fee and procedure:
A non-refundable entry fee of $10 (not to exceed $30) for each piece accepted. The fee does not cover shipping.
Exhibition:
Art at the Cathedral will exhibit the selected works from dates Mar 28—May 16. Works may not be removed until the pick-up date.
Procedures:
Two dimensional art must be wired in order to be properly hung on the French Hooks used by the Cathedral. The Cathedral has pedestals for sculpture. Large fabric should use Velcro at the top; smaller fabric can use rod with hooks at the end. Special installation requiring backlighting (such as stained glass) may be placed in front of the windows facing the garden.
Sales:
Checks for sales are made payable to the artist by the purchaser. Let your pricing reflect a suggested contribution of 20% to Art at the Cathedral in the event of a sale. The selling price is listed in the catalogue but not on the title card or art itselt.
Insurance and liability:
Works are insured at 80% of selling price up to $5,000 while at the Cathedral but not while in transit The insurance applies only during the published exhibiting dates.
Artist Statement:
Write your statement with your usual bio and include reference to your theme. Artist statements will be placed in an 8 ½ X 11 binder. You may provide contact information.
